Bio

Is an ordained Elder of the Ministerial Alliance at Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church, where the Pastors are ArchBishop Alfred A. Owens and CoPastor Susie C. Owens. Rev. Mercer is the Assistant Director of Prison Aftercare of Calvary Healthcare, Inc. which is the non-profit arm of Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church responsible for rehabilitation and reintegration services for ex-offenders. A professor of Hermeneutics and Christian Ministry Courses, Rev. (Elder) Mercer believes that we are all called to Christian growth and development, studying to show ourselves approved II Tim. 2:15.


Rev. Cheryl is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she began her teaching career in 1974. She served as an educator in high schools in Pa., Md and Virginia for 35 years and as an adjunct instructor at George Mason University before answering the call to ministry. She matriculated at George Washington University’s Doctorate Program in Executive Leadership and graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity where she majored in Urban Ministry.


Rev. Mercer is the Founder & CEO of the Erin Ashleigh Mercer Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc, an endowment begun after the death of her 16 year old daughter who was killed in an automobile accident. The scholarships are awarded to young people who demonstrate academic excellence while devoting time to volunteering to serve their communities. Its’ Board of Directors devote their efforts to bring awareness to Teen Driver Safety. This year, 2011, the Foundation and its Board of Directors were honored to be recognized by Prince Georges County Council through the Honorable Councilman Obie Patterson. The Foundation was cited for the work it has done for the community through Teen Driver Safety efforts, and for assisting young people to afford a quality education in the metropolitan area.
