2nd Samuel 24:15-24
So the Lord sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the end of the time designated, and seventy thousand of the people from Dan to Beersheba died. When the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the Lord relented concerning the disaster and said to the angel who was afflicting the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand.” The angel of the Lord was then at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. When David saw the angel who was striking down the people, he said to the Lord, “I have sinned; I, the shepherd, have done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done? Let your hand fall on me and my family.” On that day Gad went to David and said to him, “Go up and build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.” So David went up, as the Lord had commanded through Gad. When Araunah looked and saw the king and his officials coming toward him, he went out and bowed down before the king with his face to the ground. Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” “To buy your threshing floor,” David answered, “so I can build an altar to the Lord, that the plague on the people may be stopped.” Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take whatever he wishes and offer it up. Here are oxen for the burnt offering, and here are threshing sledges and ox yokes for the wood. “Your Majesty, Araunah gives all this to the king.” Araunah also said to him, “May the Lord your God accept you.” But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”;
Saints, who has become your foundation, inspiration and joy throughout each day? Where do we go, who do we look to when sin abounds and we find no answers within our wretched, weak flesh? We continue looking towards you Holy one, for your spirit which convicts us when we commit evil acts; and sin greatly in your sight. Please cleanse, purge and utterly remove our guilty stain. Thank you for your spirit of obedience that not only costs us something, but also breaks every yoke and opens every door. Now, while totally yielded and lying prostate at your threshing floor today, a magnitude of your saints have come expecting. Expecting what? To go through that extenuating process of being pressed, hard pressed until your anointed oil of joy is not only released, but that it flows freely from us! Help your children to realize that a true sacrifice will always demand extraordinary things from us. Something far greater than we can ever hope to begin and then complete on our own. Therefore, we thank you Lord that the plague upon your people has been utterly stopped at the threshing floor of our homes—simply because you spoke the words “It is enough, stay now thine hand”. Thus releasing us to enter into healing; followed by radical praise; and finally ending with total worship. That kind of worship which was so often practiced and perfected by King David. This was also that kind of praise in which he went to new levels in excelling, capturing and holding the very heart of our God.
Therefore beloved, our deepest desire for you today is that you keep moving towards that place of threshing. In this place the saints are drawn ever nearer; they’re hard pressed, then lastly shaped into something brand new—something only our God could make. Thank you Father for these lessons learned, and the multitude of benefits gained from tarrying here, at the master’s threshing floor!
